Road Trip Wednesday

This Week's Topic: Give a book character a Christmas present!

I would like to give Calla from NIGHTSHADE some anti-hormone pills so she can quit hooking up with two guys at once.

Nightshade (Nightshade, #1) Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the book, and I'm all for a good love triangle, especially when both boys are worthy of the girl. I also understand the protag having feelings for both boys, but (like Eclipse the movie vs. the book) acting on those feelings with both boys feels different to me.

Maybe I'm just jealous because this debut author got away with some edgy stuff I feel like I can't get away with in my books. Hmm...In that case, maybe I should gift myself with some anti-jealousy pills.

What about you? How much edgy feels too edgy?

I'll be out of town next week visiting family, and my internet access will be sketchy, so I might not get to blog :(

Happy Holidays everyone!!!

  1. I'll admit that some books just seem like a little too much for the age group their targeted at.

    Have a Merry Christmas.

  2. NICE--- there's a lot of characters I'd like to give those too. Bella I'm looking in your angsty direction.

  3. sign me up for anti-jealousy pills. And let's face it, all teens could use the anti-hormone pills. At least until their brains can catch up to their bodies.

  4. Hmmm, I never thought of NIGHTSHADE that way. You have an interesting point, but it didn't really bother me. It just showed bad judgement on Calla's part and also showed how uncertain she was about choosing between duty and love (although I still think Ren is WAY better).

  6. Abby- I may be a little extreme on the anti-cheating end of things. As I said, I did still enjoy the book. I am totally team Shay though...I'd pick the anti-establishment type over an alpha any day.

  7. Sometimes I think I need anti-hormone pills...seriously, I'm a little too old to be as boy crazy as I am :) And could you make me a anti-crazy pull while you're at it?

BTW- I think I want to check out this book now :)

  8. Cool cover on that book! Yeaaah, I think there's way too many hormones in most books, but then, maybe those are the "commercial" books that sell like faddish hotcakes, and not the more literary types. *shrug* I dunno. Ya can't beat a good The Book Thief or even something less well-known such as Artichoke's Heart by Suzanne Supplee.

    Happy Holidays!

  10. Haven't read Nightshade yet, but I've definitely felt the same way about love triangles many, many times!

  11. If the edgy is not a gimmick and is believable to the story then I don't mind it at all. I'll read Nightshade eventually in 2011!
