Road Trip Wednesday- Best of March

This Week's YA Highway Road Trip Topic:
What was the best book you read in March?

I had another incredible listening month. Next Monday I'll share the whole list. But today I need to pick a favorite.

My love of Historicals won out this month. Along with the fact I haven't seen any buzz about this book online.

It's WRAPPED, by Jennifer Bradbury:

Agnes Wilkins would much rather be traveling the world than having her debut into society. But when she pockets an item from a mummy at an unwrapping party, she finds that the world might end up coming to her...in dangerous ways.

As I've admitted before, I'm highly biased toward Historicals and YA ones are hard to come by...making me even more biased toward them.

Nevertheless, I loved how this one managed to throw in some believable teen angst...plus the problem of never liking the guy your parents (mom, especially) want/wants you to like.

The English fascination with Egyptian artifacts brought me back the my Amelia Peabody listening days (A wonderful Historical Mystery series by Elizabeth Peters/Barbara Michaels). So, overall, a thoroughly enjoyable listen for me.

What about you? Read/heard of Wrapped? Read anything by Elizabeth Peters/Barbara Michaels?

  2. This sounds pretty intriguing. *adds to TBR list* I've been a horrible reader this month. *sighs* there's really no excuse.

  5. It is frustrating when you read a book, love it, and find no-one else is talking about it. I enjoy history, so I'm open to a YA historical. This one will go on my TBR list. Thanks for drawing our attention to it. :)

  8. I have this on my list, but I can never remember what it's about. (I just know I love the cover.) Good to hear it's worth a read.

OK, and I never listen to audio books, but I did the other day when I was driving up the East Coast. Have you listed to ENCLAVE? The story's good (I'm not finished yet), but the narrator's voice is KILLING ME. Since you're the audio book expert, I was wondering what you thought.

  9. Tracey- I haven't listened to Enclave (they don't have it at my library), but it does sound like a good story.

As for narrators, I have had several reader friends tell me certain audiobook readers drive them crazy, but I've never really had that happen. Multi-voice productions and sound effects are more likely to bother me, but if the book is good I'll get over it.

    1. Well, if you ever want to read it, I suggest you buy the book or e-book. Save yourself! :)

I agree that multi-voice ones are more likely to drive me bonkers, especially when it's a girl trying to do a teen boy's voice. Yikes.
