Road Trip Wednesday-Safe Water Balloon Fighting?

This Week's YA Highway Road Trip Topic:
What is the strangest/weirdest thing you've ever researched?

Writing YA is not for the faint of heart, even chick lit contemporary YA. For my college-set book (where three friends challenge each other to a freshman year to-do list), I wanted to have a water balloon fight (one of the items on the list). Only, with no balloons at hand, Liz and her friends decide to use condoms (they knew about a large stash because of another item: Run five pairs of underwear up a flagpole).

So...you guessed it...I had to make sure they would burst...and given enough water and cheap enough condoms...they do!

What about you? Ever research anything strange in the name of fiction?

Come back tomorrow for my How Many Have You Read/Heard Contest...I'm giving away some of my BEA goodies!!!

  3. I third the request for a vlog of this research. PS When can I read this book? Because it sounds hilarious.

  5. That. Is. Hilarious. :D

If you've ever seen the original Skins (not the US version), they actually have a water...condom fight (and with flour...it was hilariously weird).

  6. Skins did it already? Bummer. Too bad publishing takes so long, as I wrote that scene many years ago.

  7. Ha ha! I learned about this in middle school. The boys found condoms in the bathroom at the restaurant we field tripped to and did this when we returned to school.

  8. I should have known that middle school boys would have thought to do this before I did :)

  9. Hahaha, that's hilarious! The best thing I'm doing for research is going on a road trip with my friend next month. I'm writing a road trip novel, so I want to see what it's really like! :)
