This Week's YA Highway Road Trip Topic:
(Back by popular demand!) What's the best book you've read this month?
It's FLIPPED, by Wendelin Van Draanen
Told, cleverly, from two POVs, this is the story of a boy-next-door grade school crush that, over many years, causes both kids and their families to see themselves and each other in new and enlightening ways.
I loved the girl protag, Julie Baker. She reminded me of STARGIRL (another great MG/Tween book). I also loved the families...not perfect, or divorced, or dead/dying...just real and struggling and more than meets the eye, like most families.
I'd venture to say most YA fans would enjoy this book...I hope the movie does it justice.
What about you? Favorite June read? Anyone seen this movie yet?
And come back on Friday for my How Many Have You Read/Heard Contest...I have lots of September release ARCs to give away.
Ooh... This sounds great. I'll be adding this one for sure.
ReplyDeleteI never read MG, but this sounds adorable! I am such a sucker for boy-next-door romance. Thanks for the rec!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be adding this one to my list of books to read.
ReplyDeleteOh man, I just saw the movie adaptation of this and LOVED it. Definitely need to read the book now.
ReplyDeleteSounds so cool! I'll check it out!
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of this one! I really like that cover.
ReplyDeleteThat cover totally makes me smile! And I like that, as you say, the families aren't in mortal peril or anything. There's plenty of drama in everyday life, right?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendation!
This sounds terrific and wasn't on my radar. Yay for growing the pile!
ReplyDeletehmmm...yet another to add to the TBR pile, courtesy of Jennifer's blog. :)
ReplyDeleteI have run across other recs for that and added it to my list, so I guess I'll move it up a few slots. I would like to write some more MG, therefore I need to read more.
