Road Trip Wednesday

This week's YA Highway Road Trip topic:

What are your writing/publishing superpowers (drafting? plotting? writing queries?) -- and what's your kryptonite?

Able to dart around large plotholes in a single bound, catch repetitions and redundancies that are paragraphs or even chapters apart, make readers fall in love with offbeat guys, and write dialogue that makes you want the characters to go on talking all day.

Look. Sitting in front of her monitor. Is it a computer programer? A Facebook junkie? No.

It's SUPERWRITER!

-Too bad doing outlines (before or after the book is done), writing action scenes, and giving verbal pitches can make her crash and burn...

What about you? What are your super-writer powers?

Oh, and the winners of my How Many Have You Read/Heard Contest are: Chicklitgirl, Carol and Alicia. Thanks everyone for participating, and I'll be sending out emails to winners later today.

Wish avoiding plotholes was a strength of mine! And I'm even an outliner... SIGH.

  6. Oh my goodness, verbal pitches should have been my Kryptonite. I am so terrible at that! Dialogue is not my forte, so I'm envious of your superpowers.

  7. Verbal pitches are definitely one of my kryptonites. I can't for the life of me explain my WIP succinctly. Your post was great!

  9. Great post! Ah, the verbal pitch. I also turn sweaty and green when someone asks, "What's your book about?"

  10. I can't outline to save my life either. I just have a web of post it notes instead ;)

  11. Superpowers - daydreaming - plotting without an outline and action scenes!
Kryptonite - plotting with outlines, characterization for supporting characters, and pitch lines . . .
