Road Trip Wednesday- Take Me Away

This Week's Topic

Describe your dream writing retreat. Where would you go? Who and what would you bring?

They say you can take the girl out of the country but not the country out of the girl.

Still, when this country girl at heart thinks of a writing retreat, I become an Oregonian again. I want water, ocean and sand. Not a peaceful balmy paradice with palm trees, but a rugged shoreline with pine trees and waves crashing onto rocks.

And my retreat itself? Nothing with stilts, as I'm not the type to thumb my nose at mother nature, but a victorian style house set cliffside:

(add a wrap-around porch and a large greenhouse in the back)

My actual writing space would be the top turret room, surrounded by windows facing the ocean. Desk for my computer and a window seat with plenty of pillows and throws for reading/research and laptop work. Built-in drawers and bookshelves will cover the rest of the non-windowed space. Oh, except for the built-in alcove for the small fridge and coffeemaker.

Ah, paradise.

(The rest of the house will be so my family can be there with me.)

What about you? What would be your writing paradise?

  1. I have never been to Oregon, but I think the rugged shoreline looks like one of the coolest places on Earth.
I'd go somewhere in the woods, with Adirondack chairs aplenty and white noise from the cicadas.

  2. LOL coffeemaker in the alcove ;)
Love it! All of it. The ocean, the wrap-around porch, the turret. Sounds perfect to me!

  4. This wouldn't be my writing retreat location. No. This would be my HOME! I would want to live there, not just visit for a few weeks to get some writing done! Great choice! :)

  5. Some kind of mountain retreat where I can see them from my window. Although the ocean would be good too, maybe it would depend on what kind of book I was writing.

  6. I LOVE the Oregon Coast! But I live in PDX so it's easier for me to get there. I picked it for my retreat local too.

  9. These sound like wonderful places and ideas!! I'm ready to join ya. ;o) I think the Oregon coast would be perfect, watching those waves crash (yes, I live in Oregon, but inland). I'd love to have a bookshelf just for YA books I love. Maybe someday...!

I'm going to write a post about my ideal retreat tomorrow, and I'll definitely credit you with the idea for the topic.

  11. That house looks amazing. There is a house with a turret across the park for me and I've always loved it.

  13. Actually, I like your choices just fine! I like a big city to visit, but I want to live in the country, with a big porch and waves crashing and the Internet. :)

  14. I would like to go to the same writer's retreat as you! Except, in my dreamland, it would be in Nova Scotia. :)
