I haven't written about my love of audiobooks in a while. In my non-blogging life, I get asked/tell people about audiobooks from time to time, and I keep forgetting to tell people about Playaways...unless me holding one is the reason the topic comes up.
They're fairly new. You can probably get them at your library. They're like an Mp3 player with one book on them. You add a AAA battery and your own earphones.
I'm listening to this one now. I use them mostly for shopping, vacuuming, and hauling things in/out of the house...times when I need to be on the move. You can aso play them on regular speakers/boomboxes that have an audio Mp3 plug.
I put audiobooks on my regular Mp3 players too...I shop Audible and my library has free ones I can download...but this is a good alternative for those who haven't entered the digital age yet, would rather keep their Mp3 players dedicated to music, or find CD audiobooks inconvenient. Also, sometimes you just get different/newer book choices from your library with this media.
What about you? Anyone seen or used Playaways?

That's so neat! Listening to books while doing chores would be great. I'l have to try this!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of Playaways! That's such a cool idea, especially for people like me, who have ancient and almost-full iPods.
ReplyDeleteI've never even heard of this, but I love the idea. I tend to listen to 3 books for every 1 book I read, so I like to think of myself as well versed in the audiobook world. How has this great new invention slipped past me?
ReplyDeleteMy libray has a great online service where I can check out audiobooks and load them directly onto my MP3 player. The audiobooks they offer on CD are sometimes different titles, so I occationally head into the actual library to see what they have. Now I'm going to have to see if they have Playways. If they do, I'll definately start checking them out.
Thanks for the tip.
I hadn't heard of Playaways before, but they sound brilliant!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of that! Sounds awesome, I'll have to check my library and see if they have them. I'm thinking of getting audiobooks for when I go walking.
ReplyDeleteI've seen them and keep meaning to grab one but they never have the titles I want in them. So I end up checking out the CDs. Great question!
