This Week's YA Highway Road Trip Topic:
Share some images that inspire your WIP(s).
My images might count more as research than inspiration, but research inspires me too.
I wanted to write about a girl from a planet where the power of individual and group emotional states are acknowledged and used to improve the well-being of their society. And, since seeing is believing, it made total sense to make her an aura reader.
I've spent a lot of time reading about auras, looking at pictures and imagining what they look like. The above pictures come from descriptions of beliefs about auras and those who claim to see them. Below is an actual photo of what they call the Kirlian effect, believed to be the energy that comes off of objects.
We are, in our very atoms, made up of energy and space...even the scientists acknowledge that. Whether that energy spreads from us to others through our emotions has yet to be proven...but it certainly makes great fodder for fiction.
What about you? Do you believe in auras? Do images inspire you as you write?
And check out my extended contest (here)...I'm giving away four ARCs, including SHUT OUT by Kody Keplinger.
Wow! That is so cool!
ReplyDeleteThat top picture reminds me of the album art from Hair. (http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000002W1S.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg)
ReplyDeleteVery cool photos, the top one especially. That's what I love about fiction. Even if auras aren't real, that doesn't mean they're not real in the story. :)
ReplyDeleteOMG. Not kidding, these pictures are all 100% relevant to my book also! (Don't worry, it sounds totes different from your book apart from the aura thing.) Thanks for sharing your pictures, especially that first montage of different auras. Lovely!!
ReplyDeleteVery cool. :) No idea if they're real or not, but they make for a great story element.
ReplyDeleteSo cool! I took a class in college about aura reading and acupuncture and dowsing--fascinating stuff! (Though a bizarre class...)
ReplyDeletepretty interesting. I like the last pic.
ReplyDeleteFascinating idea! The last picture resonates especially, because what if that's the reaction we have whenever we use touch-screen technology?
ReplyDeleteAmazing pictures! I love the idea of auras. I'd love to see what you do with that element in your story :).
ReplyDeleteWow, this is some deep imagery! I think my mind might be bent. :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome! They do make for a great story element!
ReplyDeleteI'm inspired to investigate auras now too.
