Road Trip Wednesday- Best of April

This Week's YA Highway Road Trip Topic: What was the best book you read in April?

Okay. I did listen to some good YA and some adult fiction this month, but when I looked over my list, the one that stood out most for me was non-fiction.

Yes, I'd heard about 3D printers and their use in medical prosthetics, but this book opened my eyes to the future...I mean, the future that is now...a time when anyone with an idea and a few thousand dollars can go into manufacturing...on their own.

It's exciting, all these new open doors. Sort of like the self-publishing world for writers.

Personally, I can't wait until the day when I can order Earl Gray tea and it will appear on a shelf in the
wall, a la Jean-Luc Picard...that future may be closer than we think.

What About you? Read this book or something like it? What was your best of April?

  1. Interesting choice. Been a long time since I read non-fiction - your post makes me want to re--order my TBR list :)

  2. And you know it's only a matter of a few years before that technology is in your home. Perhaps not to the point of being able to make tea appear on the shelf, but of being able to create 3D objects on a printer as easily as you print your novel. Think of the applications! Need a new ruler? Draw it and print it! Missing a peg to hold a shelf up? Draw it and print it! Cool stuff. :)

  3. It sometimes stuns me just how advanced technology has gotten in my lifetime. I think Earl Grey tea on demand a la Jean-Luc Picard would be fantastic, as would food that appears at the push of a button. (You know, instead of having to actually prepare it. :/)

  4. My only experience with 3D printers is that episode of Big Bang Theory where Howard and Raj buy one to make action figures of themselves. I had no idea that was based on real technology. Very cool! And Earl Grey tea brewed by a computer in my wall would be awesome. Big time saver. I'd have to say the best book I read in April was THE FAULT IN OUR STARS (huge shock there), followed by OUT OF THE EASY by Ruta Sepetys.

  5. I'd love Early Grey tea on demand. And coffee. And chocolate. And anything food-related, really.

Interesting pick! It sounds a little too modern for my taste (I tend to go historical when I read nonfiction), but the fact that we have that technology is amazing.

  6. I read some pretty awesome books in April: ELEANOR AND PARK, THE MOCKINGBIRDS, FIRE. So many! And I just got an order from Amazon so I'm sure May will be awesome too. :)

    Hope all is well!
