Road Trip Wednesday- Wish I Was There

This Week's YA Highway Road Trip Topic: What is the most inspiring setting you've ever visited in real life?

Every place I've lived has had inspiring sights. I loved pulling onto certain roads in Oregon to spy Mount Hood...the inner Midwestern girl would be screaming, It's a mountain! Right there in front of me!

Here in New Jersey I can be driving along and spy the Empire State Building. Before I moved here, I didn't realize how much it stands out in the skyline, even more so from a distance.

Even driving from congested Northern Jersey to the midwest to see family (as I did last week) gives me an inspiring sense of space (I salivate over large parking lots and gas stations with extra lanes to maneuver your car around in).

(New Jersey-cramped)

(Midwest-spacious)

Okay, so maybe it's sad that I find sprawling gas stations inspiring.

If I had to pick one place I've been to that is most inspiring it would be the Oregon coast.

You can't even swim in the water without a wet suit (the water's too cold), but they remain my favorite beaches and the most inspiring ones I've ever been too.

The writer in me would love to have an office with an Oregon Coast view.

What about you? Any inspiring locales?

  1. These look like wonderful inspiration. I've never been to Oregon but the pictures look really cool. I really like the picture of your view of the city.

  2. I don't think it's sad you find the sprawling stations inspiring! I mean, being from the west, there's not much I hate more than leagues of asphalt, but the idea of SPACE is a very inspiring thing! And, having spent the last two years in Eugene, I totally get the thing about Mt Hood, and the clear days when you can all of a sudden see it. It's just so THERE.

  3. I would love to live in Oregon. The fact that the mountains are right there along with the water is just gorgeous.

Oh, and having driven through Jersey as I made my way from VA home to MA too many times to count, I think the best thing about getting gas in any other state is being able to pump it yourself. Waiting for an attendant to do it takes forever!

  4. That's the second picture I've seen today of the Oregon coastline, and I'm sold. I'm putting it on my list of must-see places.

  5. Tracey- I do like pumping my own gas too...though it is nice to have an attendant pump when it's freezing cold out...and Oregon has pump attendants too...It's still worth living there! So beautiful.

  6. I'm laughing about the gas station thing. Being right outside of Boston our gas stations are very cramped too, but everything here is cramped. This might be why I like open spaces.
