Lovin' The Language Blogfest

Jolene B. Perry is hosting her first ever Blogfest where we each share five lines (our darlings) from one of our WIPs. I'm going to cheat a little and share one line from each of my five books/WIPs.

Frog Kisses and Fairytale Misses:
His grin was so obvious, it wouldn’t have surprised me if you could read Don’t Trust Me on his teeth.

One Hundred To-Dos:
His classmates at the table continued to stare at me, no doubt wondering what caliber level of bitch it took to get Greg Miller to shoot off like that.

Social Disorder:
"A paralyzed toad has more sensitivity than the two of you put together.”

Cheater Beaters:
A hint of a breeze hit my cheek, cool against the embarrassment of becoming just another girl to fawn over Keith Johnson.

Earthbound:
Lyle shook his head, one earbud in and the other dangling—as usual, half in our world and half in his own.

What about you? Care to share any of your darlings?

Road Trip Wednesday

This Week's YA Highway Road Trip Topic:
The house is on fire and you've only got time to grab five things. What are they?

I'm a sentimental sap, so...assuming all of us were safe, including our pets...a fire would still devastate me because of all the sentimental things I'd miss. So, I'll try to keep it to five.

1. Flashdrive- I have one attached to my keychain that has all my books on it plus backups of my most important family pictures and videos.

2. My wedding dress. My aunt made it for me, and we designed it together...really, like I said I wanted this neckline, this sleeve, the works...It's gorgeous and includes material from my grandma's dress, so it's a definite must grab.

3. Wedding album and baby books. I'm lumping them all together...sort of cheating, but I do have them in one tote in the entryway closet, ready to grab.

4. The blueprints my dad drew of the house I grew up in. Him and my uncle built it together.

5. The porcelain teapot that belonged to my great-grandma on my mom's side.

What about you? What would you grab?

Favorite Books Blogfest

Teralyn Rose Pilgrim at A Writer's Journey is hosting a blogfest where we pick our five favorite books, say what they're about and why we like them...what fun! I think I've mentioned all these books before on my blog at one time or another, but I hate to miss out on any chance to go on about my top book loves.

Wacky and irreverent...it's set out this world but hits so close to home...which is what it's about and pretty much covers why I love it too.

Slaughterhouse-Five Also wacky and irreverent...seeing a pattern here?...but this one even the literary snobs have to take seriously. Miss you Kurt Vonnegut!!! But your message does live on!

Pride and Prejudice Not wacky, but still irreverent...in a sneakier way. Jane Austen is brilliant with characters and dialogue...plus I'm a total hopeless romantic, which means I must love everything Austen or they'd kick me out of the club ;)

The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) Take Shirley Jackson's short story, THE LOTTERY, add a reality show and rebellion...Dystopian at its best...realistic, poignant and brilliant. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you don't have to be a regular YA fan to love this series.

Wintergirls  Teen Anorexia...I know, not wacky or irreverent, and no anti-war messages or romance like my other choices, but trust me when I say this is one of the most well-written books of all time...I bow to you Laurie Halse Anderson...as a humbled fellow writer.

What about you? What would your top choices be? Any match my own?
