Road Trip Wednesday- The One That Got Away

This Week's YA Highway Road Trip Wednesday Topic:
What book is your 'one that got away?' (What book have you always been dying to read but still haven't yet?)

So, it's Book Expo last year. I get in line early for a book signing I want (can't remember which one). I get done early. The line next to mine is even longer. Check my list. Definitely YA, so I ask what this one is about. A helpful person in line tells me it's Persuasion in a Sci-Fi setting.

Jane Austen and Sci-Fi? Together? I'm so there...with bells and whistles and cymbals on.

I head for the end of the line. Wait thirty minutes. With only ten minutes left and no word from officials, I'm hopeful they can keep the signing going after the appointed hour. Usually, if they have to cut a line off they would have done it by then.

Five more minutes. Finally, someone comes out to inform us that there are only a few more books left and the rest of us will have to leave empty handed.

Deep Sigh.

This one never did come out in an audio version, though I've checked often. I have a feeling that if I'd gotten a copy that day it would have been one of those few and far between books I actually take the time to read instead of listen to.

What about you? Any potentially favorite book you've put off reading? Any near misses at Book Expo or other conference?

  1. This is another one I've been wanting to read but keep putting off for no apparent reason. Then again, I still haven't read Persuasion, either...

  2. I can think of two series in particular that have come strongly recommended to me but that I *still* haven't gotten around to reading: Scott Westerfeld's LEVIATHAN series and Maggie Stiefvater's WOLVES OF MERCY FALLS series. I have the first book in the former series and all three in the latter, so there's really no excuse. I have a feeling I'll end up loving both.

  3. It's not so much that I put off reading books. Instead it's the case that I read very widely, so I have hundreds of books waiting to read, so I've pretty much given up on trying to read everything.

  4. I have a ton of books on my shelves I haven't read yet...that needs to change...

  5. You're a writer? Cool shoes. Me, too… kinda, sorta. I know for a fact, however, you gotta whole lotta intelligence behind those two ears, girl; thus, I wanna give you my finite existence: to intrinsically value the Great Beyond which I’ve learned to appreciate, to visualize the fundamental reality of infinity is why I‘m here for a teeny-weeny amount of time. Looky here...

Precisely why I had our ‘philanthropic + epiphany’ (=so much to give + vision): wanna see a perfectly cognizant, fully-spectacular, Son-ripened-Heaven?? … yet, I’m not sure if we're on the same page if you saw what I saw. Greetings, earthling. Because I was an actual NDE on the outskirts of the Great Beyond at 15 yet wasn’t allowed in, lemme share with you what I actually know Seventh-Heaven’s Big-Bang’s gonna be like: meet this advanced, bombastic, ex-mortal Upstairs for the most extra-groovy-paradox, pleasure-beyond-measure, Ultra-Yummy-Reality-Addiction in the Great Beyond for a BIG-ol, kick-ass, party-hardy, robust-N-risqué-passion you DO NOT wanna miss the sink-your-teeth-in-the-smmmokin’-hot-deal enveloping, engulfing us. Cya soon, girl…

Here’s the deal, girly: if God’s the Dealer, we’re mere poker players, able to ‘roll-the-dice’ with FAITE ACCOMPLI, come what may. Nevertheless, you’ll loooove our exploded plethora of produce which’ll plant the seed for YOU to grow to great heights!! PROCEED AT YOUR OWN WISK:
